China International Children’s Film Festival (CICFF) is an international event approved by the State Council of the P. R. of China, sponsored by the Film Bureau of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) of the P.R. of China, and organized by the China Children’s Film Association (CCFA) every two years. The aim of the festival is to enhance communication and cooperation between children's films, develop friendships between children and promote the development of Chinese children’s film industry by communication activities.
The festival includes following activities: Opening and Closing Ceremony, Screening of the outstanding international children’s films, Voting of the Best Film by International Jury, Voting of “My Favorite Film” by Children Jury, International Children’s Film Forum, Children’s Film Market(including feature, animation and television program for children), Screening of Films on Special Subject, Children’s Film Expansion Activity, Meeting between filmmakers and children audience, Children’s Cultural Activities participated by Chinese and Foreign Guests and other activities.
All of the first six CICFF, from Jun 1989 to May 1999, were conducted in Beijing, in which there were altogether 48 foreign films and 26 Chinese films having taken part. Organized in Zibo, Shan Dong Province in Jul 2002, The 7th CICFF included 27 screenings of films from 14 countries, which were viewed by nearly 13,000 children. 24 films were shown during the 8th CICFF, which was held in Hengdian, Zhe Jiang Province in May 2004. The 9th CICFF found itself in Ningbo, Zhe Jiang Province in Jun 2007, where 22 foreign and 11 domestic films were screened and a Children’s Jury composed of 300 children in Ningbo elected the “My Favorite Film” award. The 10th CICFF was held in Qingdao Economic & Technical Development Zone in Sep 2009, in which 23 overseas and 10 home films were exhibited and the average audience population was 200 people per a screening; furthermore, more than 100 foreign and domestic professionals regarding children’s film production, distribution, screening, management, teaching and researching participated in the 10th China Children Film International Forum.
In 2011, The 11th China International Children’s Film Festival will be held in Jiangyin City,Jiangshu Province. Besides the involvement of Children’s Jury in deciding the “My Favorite Film” award, numbers of famous Children’s films professionals will be responsible for voting for the results all the awards, which will be announced in the Closing Ceremony and the winners will earn bonuses. On top of that, Children’s Film Market (including Festure, Animation, Short-animation, Documentary) will certainly build a global exchange platform for investment, production, and distribution of Children’s film.
